Qualified Carpenter / Cabinet Maker or Apprentice

Black Lab Design are looking for an experienced Carpenter/Cabinet maker or someone looking to undertake an apprenticeship to join us. 2nd, 3rd and 4th year apprentices looking for a change or progression will also be considered.

Black Lab Design are looking for an experienced Carpenter/Cabinet maker or someone looking to undertake an apprenticeship to join our fast growing and face paced team in Frenchs Forest on the Northern Beaches. 2nd, 3rd and 4th year apprentices looking for a change or progression will also be considered. Full time position 7:00am – 3:00pm.

We have a full in-house sheet metal manufacturing facility with state of the art machinery. This enables us to take a client’s brief and work with them through design, prototyping to full production assemblies. If you enjoy varied work and working with timber products, this is the job for you.

If you are looking to apply for this position under an apprenticeship, you will be undertaking a Certificate III in Cabinet Making. Qualified Carpenters/Cabinet makers must: 

  • Be able to read blueprints, drawings and sketches 
  • Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of materials needed 
  • Cut, shape and smooth timber and other materials according to measurements 
  • Build various structures using raw materials or pre-constructed items 
  • Carve and assemble cabinets, shelves and other items and install them where designated 
  • Have an excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction 
  • Must have hands on experience in working with carpentry materials 
  • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools 
  • Ability to read technical drawings 
  • Good knowledge of English 
  • Good understanding of basic math 

By starting a cabinet making apprenticeship, you’ll be involved in: 

  • Assembling and making furniture from solid timber 
  • Working with flat-panel or timber based products on a daily basis 
  • Creating fixtures and fittings for shops and small businesses 
  • Examining designs, drawings and parts to determine specifications 
  • Developing through knowledge of cabinet making tools and equipment 
  • Fitting hinges, drawers and shelves 
  • Repairing fixtures 

Requirements for this role: 

  • Immediate start (upon acceptance with Apprenticeships Australia if applying under an apprenticeship) 
  • Hardworking and a willingness to learn 
  • Be able to take direction from senior staff 
  • Positive Team player & Good Attitude 
  • Punctual, reliable and trustworthy 
  • Strong problem solving skills 
  • Use of manual tools and the ability to work with your hands 
  • Self motivated and physically fit 
  • Ability to work to deadlines 
  • Full time position 7:00am – 3:00pm 
  • Flexible to work overtime when required including Saturdays 

Experience in the manufacturing industry is not necessary but a drivers licence would be beneficial. Applicants must be Australian Citizens and/or Permanent residents with the right to work in Australia.

Sales Associate

Full Time: This position is ideal for an enthusiastic Sales Associate person with an abundance of initiative wanting to establish themselves and start a career with an innovative company located on the Northern Beaches.

It is an exciting role within a growing business offering significant learning opportunities with growth potential for the right individual if so desired. We are a highly innovative and fast-growing Industrial Design and Manufacturing company. We offer a range of services including design, manufacturing and laser cutting with a key focus on system development.

About the Role:

Supporting the Group Management team to deliver on the goals of the business from a Sales and Account Management perspective, and uphold the values and behaviours of a Black Lab Design team member.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Achieve individual budget targets for sales
  • Increase profitable revenues from new and existing accounts
  • Support the team to provide clients with swift, accurate and well presented goods and services
  • Work with Group leadership team to manage the business acquisition activity and identify areas for improvement and growth
  • Work with Marketing Manager to qualify and secure new clients and opportunities
  • Develop prospects and client relationships
  • Onboard new customers
  • Take project briefs from clients and prepare accurate proposals using company systems, processes and tools
  • Sign off on proposals prior to release to client to secure profitable sales
  • Source supplier quotations and other relevant cost data to prepare accurate and profitable proposals
  • Manage opportunities through the sales cycle to close profitable sales in a timely and efficient manner
  • Facilitates clear consistent communication between internal team and external clients

To be considered for this role you must have:

  • Knowledge and adequate experience working in a sales role
  • Has experience in building relationships with potential clients via cold calls, networking and other avenues
  • Proven track record of sales success
  • Has ability to up and cross sell to new and existing clients
  • Has developed sales channels within desired client segments
  • Experience in developing new sales strategies and plans
  • A sound understanding of current trends and consumer requirements
  • Capable of preparing client proposals to a professional standard
  • Proven ability to analyse processes and ensure continuous improvement
  • Systematic approach to sales processes and business development
  • Excellent interpersonal/telephone skills and intuition
  • Ability to generate ideas for business improvement
